Google is working its ass off in the development of next Pixel Smartphones and the software to accompany the phone with. Now that previews of Android O are out, some internal source code is suggesting that next version of Android may be called Oatmeal Cookie.
Myace was the first to spot the Oatmeal Cookie in the code. The source code mentions the word ‘oc-dev’ more than once and the source code has also mentioned phone Google Pixel running Android O developer preview as ‘oc-dev’.
Sure, OC may mean other things, but if you recall, during the Google I/O presentation, the word Oatmeal Cookie was mentioned in a slide of the presentation.
Although, we should keep in mind that because it is not an official announcement, Google might as well name the OS something else during the public release of the operating system. I would like the name to be Android Oreo, considering Google has done cross promotion in past with Android 4.4 Kitkat, it is not impossible.
In case you missed, Google unveiled some details about Android O during the I/O 2017. The latest preview is numbered Android 8.0 and the company has mentioned that a preview with nearly final system images will come next month. It will be interesting to see if Google adds any other major feature to the mobile OS now that Apple has unveiled iOS 11.
