Citing undisclosed insiders, Taiwanese news outlet DigiTimes reported that in addition to OLED screen and wireless charging, the most awaited iPhone 8 will also have an iris scanner. Among many of its benefits, one will be that this feature will simplify authentication process for mobile pay services such as Apple Pay.

It should be mentioned here that the publication had earlier said that Apple has no intentions of introducing iris scanner till 2018. But the most recent rumors suggest that the iris scanner technology might be making an early entrance. The reports strengthen the earlier speculations.

MacRumors comments that noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities has earlier said that Apple is likely leaning towards facial recognition sensors rather than a straight-up iris scanner.

Now as the new iPhone is coming in three different model, it is unclear if all three versions will have the iris scanner or not.

However, Apple won’t be the first to implement this technology in smartphones. Samsung had worked with it, in its now discontinued Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and reports claim that it will make a reappearance in the Galaxy S8.
