Nokia’s New Phone, The Nokia 6 is Finally Here

After a couple of leaks and tons of rumors, HMD has finally launched an update to the Nokia 6. The phone is a direct successor to last year’s Nokia 6 (2017) which was the phone to reestablish Nokia as a smartphone brand.  Aside from following some design language from previous Nokia phones, the new Nokia 6 also has some changes.

For instance, the last year’s Nokia 6 had its fingerprint sensor on its front which is now moved to the back aside from that, the new phone will come in a new white color and in black color. There are no capacitive buttons on the front too, leaving the job for on-screen buttons and making it feel more similar to stock Android experience.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC which is clocked at 2.2 GHz and is paired with 4 GB of RAM, a significant upgrade from last year. On the front is a 5.5-inch FHD display with a more traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. Nokia has added 32 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using MicroSD cards.

On the optics department, the phone has a single 16-megapixel sensor on the back with the support of dual tone flash and PDAF lens and in the front is an 8-megapixel camera with 84-degree wide angle lens.

The body of the phone is made using 6000 series aluminum and the build quality is quite good. Connectivity wise, the phone has almost all standard options such as 4G LTE on nano-SIM cards, USB- Type C, GPS, Bluetooth v5 and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Nokia’s Upcoming Phone, The Nokia 6 Has Leaked

A couple weeks ago, we covered that Nokia might be working on a successor to its Nokia 6 which was the first phone HMD Global launched after its comeback. Just after this, it looks like we have some additional information about the phone.

A listing on TENAAA was found recently which covered some interesting aspects of the phone, including its key specifications.

The phone will have a 5.5 inch TDT display with a full HD resolution and the traditional 16:9 display aspect ratio. This counters the earlier reports that Nokia will be moving to a bezel-less design. Aside from the display, the phone will be powered by an octa-core processor which will have four of its cores clocked at 1.9 GHz and the remaining cores at 2. GHz.

Rumors suggest that the SoC will be the Snapdragon 630, just like the Nokia 7 which was launched last year. In addition, the phone will come with 4GB of RAM and it will have two storage variants, 32 GB, and 64 GB. The phone will also support dual SIM setup and microSD expansion. The battery capacity in the listing is 3000 mAh.

Nokia 6 will probably come with Micro USB charging port which is odd considering all modern Android phones are now moving towards USB type C. It will also have support for Bluetooth, A-GPS, 4G LTE at all major bands and Wi-Fi. The listing did not cover any camera specs though.

Considering Nokia 6 was a decent phone in its own right and helped establish its brand for HMD, it will be interesting to see how the 2018 refresh works out for the company.

Nokia 9 Has Leaked Again, This Time With Renders And An Iris Scanner

We have seen plenty about the Nokia 9 in recent weeks and it looks like the phone just can’t stop leaking. The renders are showing it with the curved display and a dual rear camera with a 13-megapixel Zeiss sensors including dual-LED flash support were out on the internet this afternoon. leaks show that the phone will have a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) display smartphone powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC.

The phone will sell at around EUR 750 (roughly Rs. 55,100). It will be Nokia’s elitist smartphone that will compete with top-end phones by Samsung and Apple.

It’s beautifully designed with a glass finish at the back similar to iPhone 8 series. It also comes to that Nokia 9 is the next premium smartphone getting rid of 3.5mm audio jack. Google’s latest Pixel phones are already missing it after iPhone 7 began the trend.

The fingerprint scanner is on the back panel. There are antenna bands on the side panels instead of back. The right panel has both power and volume controls. Those renders are posted by OnLeaks, which has a decent record of leaks. We are right to expect that product will be almost the same when launches. Previous leaks have suggested 6GB and 8GB RAM storage options, so it goes the same with this one. Also, Nokia 9 will have IP68 certification and 128GB inbuilt storage variant too.

The surprise may be that Nokia 9 may be first Nokia with an iris scanner and considering it will be specced out with the best components possible, it is not a surprise that Nokia is aiming at the newly launched iPhone X from Apple and Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S8 Plus.
