If you have been following Google Play related news, you should remember that Google announced carrier billing support last year with Idea mobile network.
It is about to change as the company is adding support for two of the country’s largest mobile network: Airtel and Vodafone.
All android users who have subscribed to the postpaid plan of Airtel and Vodafone will soon be able to buy stuff on Google Play and do in-app purchase on their phones. All the charges will be added to their monthly mobile usage that can be paid alongside with the data and call costs.
That’s a big deal for Indian users because many users in the country are not comfortable with paying on Google Play using Credit cards, in fact, as of now, there are less than 30 million credit cards in the country.
Google Play has been adding support for other payment methods since November when the company started accepting payments via net banking services where any customer can pay directly from his/her bank account by authenticating via a one-time password (OTP)
The company has yet to update the support page where – at the time of writing – Idea is the only listed network capable of mobile billing, but it should be done soon.
If you have an Idea, Vodafone or Airtel postpaid number, you can check on Play Store app settings to enable the carrier billing.
