How to run Windows 1.01 In a Web Browser

Folks at pcjs.org have made a fully featured emulator that runs under a web browser and it lets you use a copy of Windows 1.01 .

Ever wondered how actually the first Windows looked and worked? if yes, you are not alone. Folks at pcjs.org have made a fully featured emulator that runs under a web browser and it lets you use a copy of Windows 1.01 .

Microsoft released Windows 1 back on 20th November 1985, It was the first Windows operating system. Actually it was not a so huge success, but it was the foundation of Windows 3.1 which lead company to massive success.

Microsoft does not provide download of discontinued OS releases and because of that finding and installing these classic software in really tough.

Emulator at pcjs.org is available in two hardware configurations, the first one is monochrome IBM PC with 256 KB of RAM and it runs at a stock speed of 4.77MHz.  Whereas the other one is an IBM PC XT with 640KB or RAM and 10 MB Hard Disk.

After running them for a while you will thank Microsoft (Even if you are running Windows ME. Bad joke, I know) The emulators perform just like the original IBM PC did back in Windows 1.01 Era.

Looks old, Right?

You can also mount any disk image on these emulators to run any old software.

Don’t search for a web browser in that things because, internet was just a kid and Microsoft did not need to create a web browser at that time.

You need to do some work but you can’t help yourself watching a YouTube video? Sideplayer lets you do both in a neat way.

Sideplayer is a Chrome extension that works with YouTube. After you install the extension from Google Chrome Apps store, you will see Sideplayer button on your browser next to address bar.

You have two ways to open a video in Sideplayer, the first one is to Click on the icon in toolbar and paste the address of YouTube video. The other way is by clicking the Sideplayer button in below the YouTube video.

Video pops up on the right side of the screen by default. However, you can resize it, drag it and use common play controls. Popup stays on top and you are free to switch tabs on your browser. However, if you switch window. you will loose focus on video.

The plugin will definitely come in handy when you are chatting with your friends or doing some work online and you also want to watch a YouTube video.

The extensions is currently only available for Google Chrome. If you are using it on a Blink engine based web browser you can install it. I tried it on Yandex.Browser and Opera, it worked as expected.

The new company is a group of smaller companies, one of these is Google Itself. The others are Smart Thermostat division Next, Google X and More. Google … sorry, Alphabet hopes that the reconstruction will make the management of company better and it will create a healthy competition between the divisions of Alphabet.

Google will still manage Google Search, Gmail, Android and other stuff. The difference will be mostly for some futuristic products. Sundar Pichai now has the charge of CEO in Google whereas Alphabet will be managed by co-founder Larry Page.

All other divisions of Alphabet will have their own leaders.

For those who owned share in Google, you don’t have to worry all class A and class C shares of Google will automatically be converted into shares of Alphabet. The tickers will not have any change and trading will start from Monday on NASDAQ.

Photo sharing website Instagram is now bigger than twitter. Facebook owned company recently announced that it now has whooping 400 Million active users making twitter’s 80 million users look too small.

Growing Instagram

It took 3 years for instagram to achieve so high number of users on the internet. Unlike MySpace or Facebook, Instagram had to face tough competition from Twitter and Snapchat, both being good as photo sharing platforms. Instagram has proven that Facebook’s decision of buying the App focused Photo Sharing Network was not a mistake. Facebook paid 1 Billion Bucks to acquire Instagram in 2012. It also became one of the fastest growing social network since that year.

The Company  has already stated that more than 75% users are using it outside of USA. Since the rise of Instagram, Facebook has made itself the biggest social networking company in the world. Apart from Instagram which now has 400 Million users, Facebook also owns Whatsapp with 900 million users and the messenger with 700 million users.

Mozilla’s CEO is furious over Microsoft

Looks like Mozilla’s CEO is not happy with Microsoft’s latest OS release. Chris Beard -the CEO of Mozilla has written an open letter to Microsoft on Mozilla’s official blog showing his anger.

Mozilla’s Open Letter to Microsoft

Looks like Mozilla’s CEO is not happy with Microsoft’s latest OS release. Chris Beard -the CEO of Mozilla has written an open letter to Microsoft on Mozilla’s official blog showing his anger. The letter is addressed straight to Microsoft’s CEO Sayta Nadela. Chris is concerned with the matter of Microsoft not letting Firefox installer itself as the default web browser. In previous versions of Windows, Installers and third party applications were able to change default applications, This was mostly used with Web Browsers and Media Players. In Windows 10 Microsoft has made it impossible for Installer (in this case Firefox Installer) to change the default application.

User’s who use Express Installation during Windows 10 installation, will find (as expected) Microsoft’s Apps and services to be set as default. This includes Edge as default Web browser, Bing as default search engine and Xbox Music as Default Music App. Changing defaults apps from Microsoft apps to Non Microsoft apps is still possible but it has to be done by users themselves, not by the installer.

To change the default application, user has to dig in settings and then only from there user can make changes to default applications. It obviously is beneficial for the Microsoft Edge web browser. Although user can make the changes, Mozilla’s CEO thinks it is harder to do for new and non experienced computer user.

It now takes more than twice the number of mouse clicks, scrolling through content and some technical sophistication for people to reassert the choices they had previously made in earlier versions of Windows. It’s confusing, hard to navigate and easy to get lost.

Chris has furthermore asked Microsoft to make it easy for people to change this settings. Mozilla also has made a step by step tutorial and a video to change default web browser.
