Everything we think we know about the Samsung Galaxy S8

Now that the MWC is over we can finally focus on Samsung Galaxy S8. The smartphone giant decided to skip the Barcelone unveiling of Samsung Galaxy S8 and kept it for later. Now it won’t be too long before we get to see the most awaiting smartphone. A while ago Samsung announced the release date of Samsung Galaxy S8 to be 29th March. Another report said that it would go on sale on 21st April.

Leaked render of Galaxy S8

Now coming to the design.,Thanks to the numerous leaks that have been around we have a very clear idea as to how the Samsung Galaxy S8 is going to look. Its design will be pretty similar to that of the previous Galaxy Smartphones. It will feature a front and back glass a panels fused together by a metal band. This time though Samsung has worked towards reducing the screen to display ratio. And the fingerprint sensor has been shifted to the back of the smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S8 will have rounded edges and will be comfortable to hold.

The display will be Super AMOLED and Quad HD+. The Samsung Galaxy S8 will have 5.8-inch screen whereas the Samsung Galaxy S8+ will have a 6.2-inch display. Samsung is probably making a foldable smartphone called Galaxy X

Credit: Samsung

There is a new trademark that hints at the possibility that Samsung’s foldable smartphone might make entry into the market with the moniker Galaxy X. The smartphone giant had been working on foldable smartphones for a while now, and it seems that they are finally going to be available for commercial use by the end of the year.

A Twitter user spotted the trademark. He shared a screenshot that included an image containing the Galaxy X branding promo. It may, however, be stated that all of this can be fake at this point.

There had been reports earlier that pointed to the possibility of Samsung along with Samsung Display introducing foldable smartphones to a select audience at the MWC 2017. It was supposed to be a private show in a separate room to get feedback from those present. That feedback would further be used by Samsung to predict the demand for foldable smartphones in the market.

A Diagram from patent document

Details state that Samsung will introduce both inward folding (like a book) and outward folding products. It can be believed that the reason Samsung is showcasing the foldable product to other companies might be because it plans to sell the display and technology to other handset manufacturers.

The foldable smartphones are expected to make an entrance later this year. Samsung will begin the production of foldable smartphones with AMOLED display in the fourth quarter of 2017.

New Galaxy S8 leak shows the phone in its full glory with an AI button

Since the Note 7’s explosive débâcle, Samsung has been working on making S8 a phone that can shift the attention and help restore smartphone giant’s reputation. Several facts about S8 have leaked in the past including some pictures and specs, today, Evan Blass, who is one of the most reliable leakers of this stuff, shared a new picture of Samsung’s upcoming flagship.

The Press render looks very similar to earlier leaks including a nearly bezel-less screen and a taller that average screen ratio. However, looks closely and you will find, and you will find an additional button on the left just below the volume rocker.

Galaxy S8

No previous Galaxy phone have come with more than three buttons on the sides (two for adjusting volume and one as a power button) from the looks of it, the new button of the phone may be built to trigger the upcoming AI assistant which will be called Bixby.

Apart from the button, you can also find an iris scanner on the phone right on top of phone’s massive display. It will be the second time Samsung will be adding an iris scanner on a smartphone (first was, of course, the Galaxy Note 7).

Galaxy S8 may ditch its physical home button from phone front, and it looks like the rumors are true considering no home button is visible on the front of the phone, the phone will also have a taller display, perhaps an 18:9 ratio which will be similar to the latest LG G6.

Some specs of the phone are already leaked, it will be interesting to see how does the phone come out once it is launched on March 29.

Samsung’s plus-sized Galaxy S8 will pack a huge 6.2-inch display

Samsung is more than a month away from unveiling its flagship model, and the rumors surrounding the release are at their peak currently. The latest leak has given us a sneak peek at the Samsung Galaxy S8. The rumor suggests that the flagship model is going to be a huge device.

The reliable Evan Blass from VentureBeat tweeted a list of the specifications of the upcoming Galaxy S8. The leak, however, didn’t add anything substantial to the previous rumors but then again it gave more solid ground to the earlier ones.

Supporting a report that was published back in November the specifications sheet stated that the Galaxy S8 would come with a massive 6.2 inch Super AMOLED display with rounded corners.

There have had been earlier speculations that the much awaited Samsung Galaxy S8 will have a 6.2-inch display, it remains to be seen how Samsung will customize the design to improve the screen to bezel ratio.

Other specifications of the Galaxy S8 include water resistance, iris scanner, 4GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory that will be expandable. The flagship model will come with wireless charging and will support Samsung Pay.

It is expected that the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be the first smartphones to be powered by Qualcomm’s all-new Snapdragon 835 processor. Samsung might even introduce its own assistant Bixby in the flagship phones.

The device is expected to the announced in March, and the official launch will happen in mid-April.

No, Samsung Won’t Sell Refurbished Galaxy Note 7 In India

Yesterday, we discussed that Samsung is planning to sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 devices in India and Vietnam. The source of news was South Korean publisher Hankyung, which reported that the smartphone giant is considering to sell refurbished versions of the phone with a slightly smaller battries.

Samsung today denied the plans and a spoksperson said to Gadgets360 that “The report on Samsung planning to sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 smartphone[s] in India is incorrect.”

So, oops.

While Samsung has clearly denied plans to sell the phone in India, no one from samsug has denied about the sales in Vietnam.

Samsung has almost 2.5 million Note 7 devics in it’s inventory, which is, as we discuessed yesterday, a big pile of smartphones that have to be recycled. Add this the loss company had to deal in profts and selling refurbished phones does not sound like a crazy idea.  Now that company has not shown major interest in reselling the Note 7 devicse, it will be interesting to see what will happn to these 2.5 million Note 7 Units.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 May Soon Be Back From The Dead (At Least In India)

Unless you have been living under a rock, you must remember Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7, a beautiful and functional phablet that ended up being discontinued after several reports of explosions came into the light. After the initial reports, the company announced a recall and started exchanging Galaxy Note 7 devices for free; the problem arose when replacement devices also started exploding. After the debacle, the company announced that all devices would be returned and the company will stop manufacturing the phone.

Well, it looks like Samsung is preparing to bring the Note 7 back from the dead.

A South Korean outlet Hankyung reported that the smartphone giant is planning to sell refurbished units of Note 7 with smaller batteries in developing markets such as India.

Samsung’s Note 7 is hard to be relaunched in US and UK due to a pre-announced ban on the phone from the government, but the phone could be sold in India and Vietnam.

After the recall, reports came out that Samsung has almost 2.5 million units in its inventory. While reselling these devices will surely make up for some of the company’s loss in profit, the decision of selling phones in inventory will also save company’s hassle of recycling all the 2.5 million units, which, could be a pain in the butt.

Samsung has been working hard in getting its credibility back with the launch of Galaxy A series, and from the leaks, it looks like the company is also working hard on its upcoming Galaxy S8. It will be interesting to see how these refurbished Note 7 units sell in Indian markets.

Everything We Know About The Upcoming Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S3

It has been a long time since a high-end android tablet like Pixel C was released. As smartphones get bigger and more powerful tablets, that were once a hit with the public, have now become less common and preferred. Most of the new tablets released in the recent past have been aimed at budget buyers or children. However now as Samsung’s Galaxy S8 has been postponed till spring it is pretty clear that Samsung will be bringing a high-end tablet to the market at the MWC 2017.

It will be a huge upgrade from Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 that has been in the market since 2015. Samsung has had a lot of time to work on its flagship tablet.

The Tab S2 had come in two sizes 8 inches and 9.7 inches. However, according to a report from South Korea-based Naver News, the Galaxy Tab S3 will come in just one bigger size 9.6 inches with 2048×1536 display. A recent leak on German-based WinFuture.de, the flagship product will be identical in design to its predecessor, with a pill-shaped home button/fingerprint scanner with a pair of standard navigation buttons on the sides. It will, however, be thinner that the Galaxy S2.

The Galaxy Tab S3 may look similar to its predecessor but it will come with many upgrades. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, an upgrade from the earlier Exynos chip. It will get a 4 GB RAM (there was 3GB in Galaxy S2) and it will be equipped with a 12 MP rear and 5 MP front camera ( 8MP and 2 MP in Galaxy S2). The Galaxy S2 will run on Android Nougat, though it is yet to be seen if Samsung will add some additional features to it for the larger screen size.

The best inclusion in the Galaxy S3 will be the S Pen. While it isn’t the first Samsung tablet to come with a stylus, it will be the first in the Galaxy Tab S line to sport it. Sammobile has reported that the tablet won’t come with a slot for the stylus, and the S Pen will come in the box with the product.

Samsung has announced that the new device will be revealed at MWC on Feb. 26 at 7:00 pm CET (1 p.m. EST) at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. The Naver report stated that the Galaxy Tab S3 will be priced a bit more than the S2 ($500) at somewhere around $600.

This is The Real Samsung Galaxy S8, Launching in March

The first real images of upcoming Galaxy S8 just leaked, and the phone looks as slick as possible.

Evan Bliss from Venture Beat, who is one of the most reliable leakers on the internet, just gave the world a first glance of the most anticipated phone of 2017. The photo proves many rumors about the phone, and the phone looks a lot like its predecessors.

The new phone will ditch the fingerprint sensor from the front and put it on the back side adjacent to the camera. Samsung’s Galaxy S8 will have an iris camera, just like the dreaded Note 7 on the front of the phone. It is also clear that Samsung will no longer sell flat screened version of the phone -there will be edges on all models. Surprisingly enough, the phone will come in two display sizes: 5.8 inches and 6.2 inches.

Samsung Galaxy S8 | Credit Venture Beat

The screen size is larger than Note 7 even for the small 5.8-inch Display version of S8, but the phone should not be too large as it will have an 18.5:9 aspect ratio to minimize the screen bezals.

And there is something to mock Apple too: a headphone jack at the bottom.

Both devices will come with Snapdragon 835 or Samsung Exynos SoC which are almost 11 percent faster than current processors. The new SoC will also be nearly 23 percent more powerful in graphics processing, and it will consume 20 percent less battery which will be good as Samsung won’t put a larger battery inside the phones.

The smaller 5.8-inch variant will come with 3,000 mAh battery, and the larger one will come with 3,500 mAh battery.

There is some information about the camera too, the rear shooter will stay as the same 12 megapixels, but the front camera will get a bump to 8 megapixels from 5 megapixels in current flagship, the Galaxy S7.

Release date of Galaxy S8

Evan also has information about the release date of the phone. The company won’t launch the new phone at Mobile World Congress. Instead, the phone will be launched on March 29. The company should start selling the phone on April 21.

The Galaxy Note 7 was a terrific phone, well… until it exploded. Samsung has definitely had seen better reputation for itself in the past. Galaxy S8 is one of the most anticipated phones of all time, and this is probabbly why Samsung is trying to be as careful as possible.

Galaxy S7 And S7 Edge Are Finally Getting Android 7.0 Nougat Update

After testing the beta version of the update for weeks, Samsung is ready to ship the latest version of Google Android to its users, well, at least for S7 and S7 Edge users.

Users have reported that the update began last week, but Samsung only today acknowledged the news and the company also stated that some other phones would also get the update in the upcoming months.

Galaxy A5
Galaxy A5

Apart from The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Samsung will update S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge+. Apart from S series, Note 5, Galaxy A3 and A8 will also receive the update. While there is no release date, we can expect it to begin within the first two-quarters of the year.

The Android 7.0 already includes some new and refined features to the mobile operating system. After receiving the OS from Google, OEMs like Samsung, HTC, etc.featues, add and modify features as per their liking. The Smartphonen giant has done some major UI changes  that include a new quick panel and notifications, better multi-window support, a performace mode and Samsung Pass.

In past Samsung phones had multi-window support, but it was limited to very little amount of apps, with the Nougat Update, multi window will support a lot more apps than the past. The notification tray has been improved with inline replies and some other tweaks to minimize the taps required to complete a task.

The update adds some modes into the devices, the first one being a game mode that includes a game launcher and some other gaming related tweaks. Second, There is an entertainment mode that tries to enhance audio, and display quality and the last one will be a performance mode to increase phone’s speed.

In the past, mobile phone manufacturers have been crappy when it came to providing Android updates; it is good to see Samsung taking current steps.

Samsung Just Launched Galaxy C9 Pro With 6GB RAM in India

OnePlus 3T is no longer the only phone with 6GB of (overkill?) RAM in a phone. Samsung just launched its most powerful Galaxy C phone in Indian markets, and it will go on sale from the last two weeks of next month.

As NDTV reports, the company will start selling the C9 Pro online as well as offline for a price around 37,000 Rupees. Similar to the C7 Pro we talked about yesterday, the phone will be available in two colors: Black and Gold.

For the price, the phone will come with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, a 6″ Full HD AMOLED display and 6GB of onboard RAM. In the processor, 4 of its cores are clocked at 1.9 GHz for faster processing and the remaining four cores will run at 1.4 GHz to conserve battery power when possible.

Apart from the above, the phone will come with a 16-megapixel rear camera which will have dual LED flash and an aperture of f/1.9 to help with low-light situations. There is a front camera too, and it will have a flash this time. C9 Pro’s internal storage is 64 GB, and it can be expanded up to 256 GB with a standard microSD card.

Galaxy C9 Pro has a 4000mAh battery which supports fast charging, and the phone has a fingerprint sensor backed in its physical home button. Apart from 4G LTE, the phone will have NFC, Bluetooth 4.2 and a USB type-C port.

C9 is very similar to its lower prices brother, the C7 Pro which was launched recently. Considering it is the only phone from Samsung to come with 6GB of RAM, it will be interesting to see how the phone does in the Indian market.
