Microsoft Backs-Off from It’s Promise of Unlimited OneDrive Storage

Recently, Microsoft announced tons of changes in its OneDrive service on a blog post and none of it seems to be a good news.

This is what happens when someone puts 75TB data on OneDrive.

Recently, Microsoft announced tons of changes in its OneDrive service on a blog post and none of it seems to be a good news.

Microsoft is reducing the allotted storage in almost all Tires of OneDrive. These will be applicable on 2016 and users will be soon notified by Microsoft if they are affected by this.

Office 365 subscribers are now reduced to 1TB of OneDrive Storage from Unlimited storage. This is quite a downgrade as people were able to store unlimited data on their OneDrive accounts.

The bad news doesn’t stop here though,  Microsoft is also reducing free storage limit to 5GB again. This seems to be rediculas keeping in mind that Google still offers 15GB of free storage on its Google Drive. Although, Apple’s iCloud is at a similar state at 5GB free storage.

Microsoft has made changes on its free plan several times since the inception of OneDrive. At the launch it was 25GB of storage, than it was changed to 5GB. After that it was again increased to 15GB.

TL;DR is that now free users have 5GB of storage. Even if you enabled Camera Roll feature in OneDrive’s Android or iOS app, it will no longer benefit in storage.

There is one more thing to hurt customers, Prices are also being increased of storage plans and some plans are removed altogether in the OneDrive service.

You will no longer be able to buy 100GB or 200GB monthly plans, instead there is only one plan -50GB for $2 per month. Users who already have one of these plans will not be affected.

Microsoft has said that if a user has stored more data than the new plans, they will be able to keep it for next 12 month.

Why Microsoft is Doing this?

Microsoft has tried to give some reasons on the blog post, the best one is that some users were storing too much data on their OneDrive Account.

A small number of users backed up numerous PCs and stored entire movie collections and DVR recordings. In some instances, this exceeded 75 TB per user or 14,000 times the average.

Some users stored more than 75TB of data. (Seriously? 75 TB? how many torrent movies did that guy kept in there) This may make some sense reduction of Unlimited tier but that is not making sense in the matter of reducing free storage to 5GB from 15GB.

However, Office 365 still is cost effective compared to other storage plans on the internet. These changes will be applied form 2016.

What do you think about the reduction on data storage in OneDrive? Will you be switching back to Google Drive or other services or will you stick with it? share with us in the comments below.

Looks Like Google’s Head Of Design Doesn’t Like Windows 10

Now, Matias Duarte, the Google’s Head of Design has made it clear that he is not liking he way Windows 10 works.

Windows 10 has made many people happy and many not so happy.
Now, Matias Duarte, the Google’s Head of Design has made it clear that he is not liking the way Windows 10 works. According to Matias, it is just like Windows XP that was released 10 years ago.

He made a couple of tweets on his twitter account after setting up his new Microsoft Surface Pro 4.

Looks Like Google's Head Of Design Doesn't Like Windows 10

The comments do matter considering Matias is the one of the major minds behind Google’s Material Design Principal. He has worked on the UX and UI front of Google Android and other Google Products.

However, his mocking seems right at some point, considering Android has revamped many times since Microsoft released Windows XP in 2002.

He did not say about one particular app/software in Windows 10 that he is unhappy about, rather he just said that Windows 10 is just like a software 10 Years ago. Google’s Material design is just being loved by users whereas people are not too fond of Microsoft’s Don’t call it Metro Visual Style.

And perhaps the biggest reason is the inconstancy in UI elements and Microsoft not being able to update all icons and other components to modern standards. It is plain obvious that users can still find tons of screens and dialog boxes still looking like they are from Windows 95.

After firing up a debate on Windows 10 on twitter, he made it clarified that he does not have problem with how Windows 10 looks. Rather he is not liking the way Windows 10 works.

Matias Duarte

That must have given Microsoft and Satya Nadela a burn.

It will be interesting to see how Microsoft defends himself and his flagship OS from these attacks.

Here is How Samsung’s 18″ Tablet will Look Like

Yes, Samsung is making a 18″ Tablet Called Galaxy View. To me more precise, it will have a 18.4″ monster display. The image reveals that the tablet is a no joke 18″ monster.

Apple has a 13″ iPad Pro, Microsoft has it’s Surface Pro so why Samsung cant make a giant tablet? well Samsung is creating a Tablet that is going to have a display bigger than my 15.6″ Laptop.

Yes, Samsung is making a 18″ Tablet Called Galaxy View. To me more precise, it will have a 18.4″ monster display. Evaleak posted a leaked image on twitter. The image reveals that the tablet is a no joke 18″ monster.

To stand this huge display, Galaxy View has a kickstand which is  bit similar to Microsoft Surface Pro devices. In Specs departments, rumors say that tablet will be powered by a 1.6GHz Exynos 7580 SoC and it will be assisted by 2GB of RAM on board. It has a 1080p, 120PPI display.

samsung-galaxy-view

Seems that Galaxy View will come in WiFi, LTE and 3G version. According to the recent leaks, WiFi model will cost around $600, which seems legit for this huge screen.

Samsung really want to be noted on big screen tablets, the Samsung Galaxy View will compete with Apples smaller (but still huge) iPad Pro.

$600 price will definitely make it cheaper than iPad Pro or Surface Pro. However, giant tablets loose their charm due to too much weight and it will be interesting to see how Galaxy View stacks up against the competition.

A Big Windows 10 Update is Coming Next Month

The Update will be free us promised and it will sort out some problems and (hopefully) annoyances that are present currently in Windows 10.

Microsoft has already clarified that there will be no Windows 11 in future, instead everyone will be getting updated gradually.  Looks like they are preparing a major update in November. The Redmonds have code named it Threshold 2.

Paul Thurrott says that the update will be commutative and you won’t need to have all the latest updates to install it. The update is numbered as 1511 where as it was 240 for the (arguably) RTM version of Windows 10.

It may confuse some people but it is numbered as Year and Month (2015 and November)  With this we can say one thing for sure that Microsoft’s habit of sucking at version numbers in not going anywhere with this update.

The Update will be free us promised and it will sort out some problems and (hopefully) annoyances that are present currently in Windows 10.

One of the biggest things in This updates is that you will be able to activate Windows 10 by using licence keys of Windows 7 or Windows 8. Along with this, improvements in Cortana will be welcomed.

Still no Extensions for Edge

Given that it is the first major update for Windows 10, still you will have to hold on for extension support in Microsoft Edge. Microsoft has stated that this feature will arrive only in 2016.

Therefore, if you are someone who just cant live without browser extensions, you will have to stick to Google’s Chrome or Firefox. Extensions are a huge bottleneck for most of the people who want to use edge. It is definitely disappointing that we will have to keep waiting for them.

No more “OK Google” Voice Detection on Google Chrome

Google seems too obsessed with simplification of its Chrome Browser, right after Google removed the notification center from all Google Chrome, the company has also ripped off “OK Google” Voice Detection.

Google seems too obsessed with simplification of its Chrome Browser, right after Google removed the notification center from Google Chrome, the company has also ripped off “OK Google” Voice Detection.

The reason is same for this as it was about Notification Center -no one seems to be using them.

We haven’t seen many users utilize this feature on these platform

– Google

The Voice Search Feature was used to make Google Searches on Chrome. When a users said OK Google followed by search query or question, Chrome will make a search on Google

Although the always on OK Google detection is being removed, Google still offers the voice search button on Chrome’s new tab page and on its home page.

The feature is being removed with 46th version of Chrome and it will be applied on Google Chrome for Windows, Linux and Mac. Any device running Chrome OS or Android wont be affected with this.

Chrome 46 looks more like a decrementation updates for features, it is sure that users who were using it will get disappointed. However, Google thinks that the number of these users is too low and can be ignored.

Did you use “OK Google” voice detection on your PC? if yes, share with us via comments below.

Google, the company that is now owned by Alphabet, has removed Google Chrome Notification Center from Windows, Linux and Mac OS because no one is using it.

As the company said in its blog post that the notification system on Google Chrome will be removed to make it simpler and remove the complexity.

Few users visit the notification center. To keep Chrome simple, it will be removed from Windows, Mac, and Linux in the upcoming release. The notification center on Chrome OS will remain unchanged.

– Chromium Blog

If you are not familiar with it, the notification center icon used to sit on the notification tray and at its best it was able to show cards from Google Now. Now after it is removed, any try to make a notification will result in an error and also any API that is using the Notification center will no longer work.

Other chrome specific notifications will continue to work and Chrome will still be able to notify you for any occasion.

It was first introduced in 2013 and a few month ago Google refused to Integrate Chrome Notification Center with Windows 10’s notification panel.

However, Google is not removing the Notification Center from its Chrome OS, which is the operating system used in Chromebooks.
