Google Has An App To Let You Share Your Location With Your Loved Ones

Safety of children and other family members is an increasing concern for many modern families. Google is trying to help you with it by helping you in tracking their location with they are out of the house.

Google just released a new location-sharing app called Trusted Contacts. The idea behind the app is to make sure that your loved ones are always able to know where you are and whether you are safe.

The app is fairly straightforward, simply install the app and then you can choose your trusted contacts. Once you have marked a contact as trusted, he/she will be able to see your location on the app.

If your family members need to know your location, they can ask you with a tap on a button. You can accept the request to share your location or reject it if you wish, but if you do not reply within 5 minutes, the app will automatically send your location to your family members.

While it can be a great tool to make sure that your family members are safe, I can see some family using the app for some other situations as well. It is worth knowing that this idea is not completely one, some other apps (Life360’s Family Locator comes to mind) offer very similar feature set. However, Google’s App is completely free to use and it has tighter integration with Google’s other services such as Maps.

You can install the app from Google Play Store, There is no word about any iOS version yet.

Apple Has Killed Development of AirPort Wireless Routers

In a time when Google has started shipping its Wi-Fi routers, Apple has reportedly killed off development of it’s Wi-Fi router and assigned the product teams to other projects.

As Bloomberg reported today, The Company has been slowly shutting down the division over the course of past year. It is being said that Apple is doing so to focus more on consumer products that are making big bucks for the company.

In case if you wonder, Apple’s AirPort WiFi routers, which are included into “other products” of Apple’s annual earning reports made $11.1 Billion which is merely 5 percent of total income while iPhones are continuously making bulk money for the company.

2016-11-21_23h38_08

Apple is hoping to use the workforce on more innovative products like Apple TV, iPads, MacBooks and iPhones.

While the development of AirPort routers has been stopped, it is unclear if Apple will kill the manufacturing of product or not as all three models of AirPort can still be bought from retail stores.

AirPort routers have not been updated since last 3 year and now that R&D has been killed off, there is a good chance that Apple will be pulling the plug from Router markets.

If you are a gamer and a coloring lover both at the same time, sure coloring your favorite gaming characters is better than just filling green color in bushes on a KG kid’s coloring book. At least Sony thinks so.

Google’s Android is Installed On 9 Out of 10 Mobile Devices

In last quaeter of the year, Google has shipped almost 326 million Android Devices, which is an impressive 10.3 percent increase over 2015.

Google Android has set a new record in terms of Mobile OS market share. In the third quarter of 2016, Android holds 87.5% of smartphone OS market share. For those who are bad at math, these numbers mean that if you pick 10 random smartphones in the market, 9 of them will be running on Google Android.

In the last quarter of the year, Google has shipped almost 326 million Android Devices, which is an impressive 10.3 percent increase over 2015. Last year, Android’s market share was 84.1 % which has increased more than 3% within a year.

Apple should start to worry about iOS

Now that Google has captured more than 87% of the market, Apple should start to worry. Even though iPhone 6S and 6S Plus broke sales records last year and iPhone 7 is selling well, iOS’ market share has shrunk to a mere 12.1 percent, which is 5.2 percent lower than last year’s market analysis.

With that said, other operating system’s such as Microsoft’s Windows Phone and Blackberry’s BB10‘s  have started to disappear completely with just 0.3% of market share (this includes all other mobile operating systems on the market).

When Apple removing the headphone jack from iPhone has annoyed users, Google is not missing any chance to win people who are abandoning iOS. The search giant recently launched Pixel phone’s  to compete in flagship market, apart from Pixel, India and China’s growing demand for low-cost smartphone is also a major reason of Google climbing on top of the OS market share graphs.

Facebook ‘Borrows’ Snapchat Features (Again)

Facebook is really impressed with Snapchat, the social network has cloned one more feature into its app and this time it is for the Facebook app itself.

Facebook is really, really impressed by Snapchat. So much that after cloning Snapchat stories and naming them Instagram Stories, the social network has cloned one more feature into its app.

The social networking giant recently announced Virtual Masks in live streams and the company is now testing some new photo effects and masks in its main camera app for still images and videos.

In other -simple- words, get ready for more face swaps on your facebook feed.

But it’s not a complete rip-off of Snapchat filters, the photos will disappear after 24 hours -unless someone comments on the photo to start a conversation. And, to make sure people notice the new feature, Facebook will place a camera icon on the top left of the main app.

But wait, Facebook has got inspiration from one more app

Apart from Snapchat, Facebook is also copying some features from photo editing app Prisma. In case you missed it, Prisma allows you to convert your photos into paintings.

It is worth knowing that Facebook tried to buy Snapchat back in 2013, but CEO of Snapchat did not allow that.

How to Live Stream Apple’s October 27 Event

You can live stream the October 27 Event on Apple’s site, but please keep in mind that not all web browsers work. Chrome won’t work, but Edge will.

If you don’t live under stones, you must already know that Apple is hosting an event on October 27 where it will  announce updates to its MacBook Pro lineup.

While almost all major companies have started to live stream their major events online, surprisingly enough, most of them don’t make the live stream available on YouTube. Instead, they host live stream on their own website. (which also makes sense as you can pre-order from the same websites in many cases)

You can live stream the October 27 Event on Apple’s site  apple.com/apple-events/october-2016, keep in mind that not all web browsers work. The supported browsers and devices are:

  • Microsoft Edge on Windows 10
  • Safari 6.0.5 or newer on OS X 10.8.5 or higher
  • If you are on iOS, Safari on iOS 7.0 or higher
  • Apple TV with software 6.2 or later if you are on 2nd and 3rd generation.
  • 4th gen Apple TV

There is a good chance that Apple will update MacBook Air and iMac. Now that Microsoft has just unveiled Surface Studio, an All-in-one PC,  expectations from Apple about new iMac will be higher.

This Laptop has GTX 1080 and a Mechanical Keyboard, But it is as Thin As MacBook Pro

Razer Blade Pro has a GTX 1080 GPU, Quad Core Processor, a Mechanical Processor and a 4K Display. Take a look at all that is new in Razer’s flagship laptop.

Recently, Gaming hardware manufacturer Razer overhauled its most popular Laptop with some seriously powerful specs, a thin profile, and a 4K touch Screen. The new laptop comes with a mechanical keyboard too.

The laptop  is powered by a Core i7-6700HQ processor. As the 6000 series suggests, the i7 is based on last year’s Skylake architecture. While it is not the newest Quad Core, these are still the most powerful one available for sale.

The Laptop has a 17-inch 4K display that comes with G-Sync and 100% Adobe RGB coverage, surprisingly, Razer Pro’s screen is also Touch enabled.

Razer Blade Pro

Like its brothers, Blade Pro is a gaming Laptop and to power the 4K screen and run games, Razer has added a Nvidia GeFource GTX 1080. Mind you, its is a Desktop card, not a Laptop one, so you can expect pretty much high-end gaming desktop grade performance from this beast.

Blade Pro comes with 32 Gig of 2113 MHz DDR4 RAM and you can pick between 512 GB to 2 TB of M.2 Solid State Storage. The laptop also packs a Killer DoubleShot Pro network interface card and supports 802.11ac wireless to make sure the lowest possible latency.

While all these specs are impressive for a Laptop that is just as thick as a MacBook Pro, Razer Pro’s biggest trick up its sleeve is a mechanical keyboard.

While Razer is not the first one to cram a Mechanical Keyboard in a Laptop, this is certainly the best looking and most practical implementation yet. MSI Released GT80 two year ago with a Cherry MX Brown mechanical keyboard, but that thing was way too bulky.

MSI GT80 had a Mechanical Keyboard, but it was more of a Portable Desktop than a Gaming Laptop

If you are a PC gamer, I am sure that your mouth must be watering to get that piece of engineering on your hand, but there are some compromises too. While Razor Pro is slim, it still weights 7.8 pounds and as long the battery is, powering those specs on a 4K display is not going to be possible for a long time without plugging it into a wall adapter.

And Razer Blade Pro starts selling at $3700.

Instagram is now available for Windows 10 PCs and Tablets

Instagram is finally available for Windows 10 PCs and Tablets, the app is available in Windows store and you can install it right now, however, if you were hoping for an iPad app, you will need to keep waiting.

It is not the first time an app from Instagram is released for Windows 10 though. iI fact, in April, Facebook released an Instagram App for it but it was restricted to run only on Windows Phones. The newer app is a universal one and thus it can run on almost all Windows 10 devices including PCs and Tablets.

There is no official word about an app release for iPad and if you use an iPad, you will have to manage with the unoptimized iPhone version.

Instagram for Windows 10
Direct Messages on Instagram

The app looks and works just as you might expect for an Instagram app to work. Almost all features from mobile apps such as Stories, Explore, and DMs are available and work fine. However, you can’t really upload a photo unless you are using a PC or Tablet with a working touch screen. This is kind of bizarre restriction but if you are on a tablet such as Microsoft Surface the capture and upload work fine.

However, you can’t really upload a photo unless you are using a PC or Tablet with a working touch screen. This is kind of bizarre restriction but if you are on a tablet such as Microsoft Surface the capture and upload work fine.

There were some unofficial Instagram apps available in Windows Store, but the official app works the best among them.

By the way, if you are on an OS other than Windows 10 (such as Windows 7/8 or Ubuntu) you can always see your Instagram feed on the web version. It won’t allow you to post photos or send Direct Message, but for browsing the feed and viewing the notifications, the site works just fine.

You can download the app here.

Google is Opening a MadeByGoogle Store in Lower Manhattan

MadeByGoogle Store will be located in 96 Spring Street and in the store, and the company will showcase all of its hardware in its full glory.

Even in the age of e-commerce where you can get electronics and get them directly delivered to your doorstep, Google has realized that traditional stores still hold their place and this is why the search giant is opening a retail store in Manhattan on the 20th of this October.

The store will be located in 96 Spring Street and in the store, the company will showcase all of its hardware in its full glory. Just like Apple and Microsoft do with their own stores.

After the recent launch of Pixel Phone, Google WiFi and Google Home, the company has enough hardware to justify having a physical store of its own. However, it is not the first time Google is betting on a physical store, when the company was experimenting with now dead Google Glass, a series of stores were opened on cities like London, New York and San Francisco.

There is no word about if company will be opening other store or if Google will be selling products from other OEMs (Microsoft does)

Google has a large enough lineup of hardware products that includes Chromebooks, Tablets, phone etc. it will be interesting to see how Google’s new store does.
