Facebook ‘Borrows’ Snapchat Features (Again)

Facebook is really impressed with Snapchat, the social network has cloned one more feature into its app and this time it is for the Facebook app itself.

Facebook is really, really impressed by Snapchat. So much that after cloning Snapchat stories and naming them Instagram Stories, the social network has cloned one more feature into its app.

The social networking giant recently announced Virtual Masks in live streams and the company is now testing some new photo effects and masks in its main camera app for still images and videos.

In other -simple- words, get ready for more face swaps on your facebook feed.

But it’s not a complete rip-off of Snapchat filters, the photos will disappear after 24 hours -unless someone comments on the photo to start a conversation. And, to make sure people notice the new feature, Facebook will place a camera icon on the top left of the main app.

But wait, Facebook has got inspiration from one more app

Apart from Snapchat, Facebook is also copying some features from photo editing app Prisma. In case you missed it, Prisma allows you to convert your photos into paintings.

It is worth knowing that Facebook tried to buy Snapchat back in 2013, but CEO of Snapchat did not allow that.

Instagram is now available for Windows 10 PCs and Tablets

Instagram is finally available for Windows 10 PCs and Tablets, the app is available in Windows store and you can install it right now, however, if you were hoping for an iPad app, you will need to keep waiting.

It is not the first time an app from Instagram is released for Windows 10 though. iI fact, in April, Facebook released an Instagram App for it but it was restricted to run only on Windows Phones. The newer app is a universal one and thus it can run on almost all Windows 10 devices including PCs and Tablets.

There is no official word about an app release for iPad and if you use an iPad, you will have to manage with the unoptimized iPhone version.

Direct Messages on Instagram

The app looks and works just as you might expect for an Instagram app to work. Almost all features from mobile apps such as Stories, Explore, and DMs are available and work fine. However, you can’t really upload a photo unless you are using a PC or Tablet with a working touch screen. This is kind of bizarre restriction but if you are on a tablet such as Microsoft Surface the capture and upload work fine.

There were some unofficial Instagram apps available in Windows Store, but the official app works the best among them.

By the way, if you are on an OS other than Windows 10 (such as Windows 7/8 or Ubuntu) you can always see your Instagram feed on the web version. It won’t allow you to post photos or send Direct Message, but for browsing the feed and viewing the notifications, the site works just fine.

You can download the app here.
