How Much Does It Cost Apple to Make an iPhone X?

Apple launched the newest and probably the most impressive iPhone a month ago in an event. As you may already know the phone sells for $999. Want to know how much its components add up in money terms? IHS Markit broke iPhone X to pieces. They claim that 64GB version has a cost of around $370.

It is about A1865 model of the iPhone X with 64GB. The highest cost, as says Andrew Rassweiler, senior director of cost benchmarking, is of the screen and its TrueDepth sensing system. It is also the most talked about feature of this smartphone which gives its Face ID, a facial recognition which replaces fingerprint recognition along with an infrared camera projecting more than 30,000 invisible dots to map faces.

Jérémie Bouchaud, Face ID is similar to Microsoft’s Kinect sensing system, which used a flood illuminator, dot projector coupled with an infrared camera.

Teardown reveals IR camera is supplied by Sony/Foxconn and flood illuminator is an IR emitter from Texas Instruments built on an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and single-photon avalanche diode detector from ST Microelectronics. Finisar and Philips have produced the dot projector and the overall cost of putting the hardware with the TrueDepth sensor cluster at $16.70.

Another big cost is the 5.85-inch 19.5:9 aspect ratio AMOLED display including the cover glass, AMOLED panel, and Force Touch sensor, at $110. And when sum up the totals cost by the margins that can be there, the overall cost reaches to $370. Of course, it will higher little when you including the manufacturing process, but that can be marginal. And if it’s about the overall cost of the material placed in the iPhone X, that will sum-up to $370. from another benchmark, however, HIS Markit claims Apple’s iPhone 8 Plus has a bill of materials cost of $288. So we can find it somewhere an approximation around those figures. You may be surprised to know that Samsung’s Galaxy S8 also costs almost same as the iPhone.

It Looks Like OnePlus 5T Just Can’t Stop Leaking

Another pictures on Weibo assured us of the same bezel-less move by OnePlus in a mobile world recently obsessed with Bezel-less designs which also have us watching an absence of the home button on this smartphone. A rear-facing fingerprint scanner in a recent teaser shows us the backside too.

Co-Founder Carl Pei of OnePlus tweeted on Wednesday “Cool photo, must have come from a great camera,” with an image taken from its camera that brags excellent performance in low lightings. CEO Pete Lau later tweeted another teaser with a coloured shot, “Impressive photo. Must be a great camera,” the tweet reads.

OnePlus 5T seems coming with an upgraded dual-camera setup including an optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a larger set of image sensors. It is supposed to have a broad a 6-inch full-HD+ display with latest Android Oreo out of the box.

Some More Details About Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 Leak

Now that Galaxy Note 9 is on sale in the market, Samsung is working hard on developing the next Galaxy Phone, the Galaxy S9. We heard Galaxy S9 may have iPhone X styled Face ID feature, but it was all in vain. A Recent patent filed by Samsung reveals that a front-facing fingerprint scanner is going to be there in the smartphone.

The patent is filed with KIPRIS, which is South Korea’s trademarking organization.

This information also reveals that Samsung is planning on building a small recess aka notch, in the lower part of Galaxy S9. this is the part that will keep the fingerprint reader. For some, it may look beautiful and for other ugly. however, it is a bit odd when most phones are going for a neat and clean design all over the world and the race is to removes and bring the fingerprint sensor in the touchscreen itself, which is already attained by some phones.

Concept image

Earlier we had home buttons but now with full view display trend, it is not feasible to place the finger scanner under the display, and Samsung has opted for this weird alternative. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8, will certainly upset many consumers with its awkward design. We have seen reports that Galaxy Note 9 may come with a fingerprint sensor under the display, but it looks like Galaxy S9 won’t come with that when it is launched early in 2018.

Samsung is to be working on its own 3D image mapping sensors. So we can forget the Apple-like face-ID feature for now. It also makes sure that Apple will keep leading ahead of Samsung in the race of aesthetics.

However, 3D recognition is an innovative move as it is coming with a TrueDepth camera with a dot projector. Technically it will have 30,000 invisible dots for creating a depth map of a user’s face. Yet, in term of aesthetics, Samsung seems to make a step backward.

Google Pixel 2 Performs Poorly in Stress Tests

Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, both long-awaited flagship smartphones that began sale in the United States just recently. And simultaneously, the testers have done their job during the last week to provide us with key information about the phone and its supposed quality in numerous departments – if it matches the boasts or not.

In case of durability, it seems that Pixels has not made a mark. While Samsung, Nokia, and iPhone can still boast of beastly tuff smartphones, Google’s new arrival fails to impress as expected.

It’s not that bad, but not too good either as the tests show Google could definitely build the phone big better.

iFixit is notorious for testing the durability of new phones. And ripping apart devices to peep inside them. They corseted Pixel 2 XL handset. And demonstrated its engineering that Google has implemented.

They have placed a couple of “strain gauges” steel blocks with resistors between them – on both sides of the phone that detect the pressure to trigger Google Assistant.

iFixit says “As you squeeze, the outer row of gauges should be shortened, while the inner row is lengthened. This gives the Pixel software a larger absolute deflection to detect and measure to trigger the feature,” HTC has manufactured the Pixel 2 XL smartphone, performed the same engineering marvel in the HTC U11 flagship smartphone that was launched earlier this year.

A self-designed SoC is inside the phone. A surprising part is that Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones feature two SoCs. Pixel Visual Core chip releases Android 8.1 software update and Google says Pixel Visual Core will improve the camera capabilities.

No antenna bands, it seemed first but teardown showed that they are inside. iFIxit also says it was nice to see that many components inside the Google Pixel 2 XL are modular. The screws are Philips #00, that you will get in any repair stores. However, DIY enthusiasts can have some disappointment if they want to replace the display which is “thin and poorly supported,” also the battery is “walled-in.”

iFixit gave the phone 6 out of 10 to Pixel 2, which is quite average compared to its tough competition.

Samsung Galaxy S8 is Getting The Best Feature of iPhones

When the phone was launched, Galaxy S8 did not come with the Portrait Mode feature that Apple made popular with the launch of iPhone 7 last year.  As the company uttered recently, portrait mode will be introduced with a new software update. It is part of the new device structure, a metamorphosis of many aspects of Samsung phones.

For now, Galaxy Note 8 is the only Samsung flagship phone to have it, Galaxy S8 doesn’t have a dual-camera setup. So, like the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, the S8′s camera will have bokeh effects using this new software setup.

Samsung’s customer service representative has already claimed that next update is about to have the portrait mode feature, “there is no information yet, but we hope,” he wrote in an email to the clientele “that you will get portrait mode update with the next SW”.

Apple made portrait mode popular with iPhone 7 Plus, which allows clicking photos of a focused object against a blurred background.

As for specs, Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED display, an Exynos 8895 processor with 64GB internal storage (expandable 264GB) and 4GB RAM.

It has a 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front selfie snapper. It supports Samsung’s voice assistant – Bixby. The Galaxy S8 is powered by a 3,000mAh battery and includes Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box with TouchWiz UI.

With new revelations and reports now Samsung is keeping up the high Buzz for its coming flagships successfully. There is a huge market awaiting new Android sets from Samsung in its leading flagships. An overhaul of software and an inclusion with hot features are going to help the company stay strong in coming times.

More Reports About iPhones Cracking Open Come Out

After our earlier report of 6 already disturbing cases of Apple’s iPhone-8 Plus batteries swelling and getting the phone split opened, we had been waiting and watching to confirm how true the news is. For now, though there is no official response from Apple, just that they are looking into the matter, there is a case spotted in the US.

A Best Buy employee on Reddit uploaded the images of bulging iPhone 8 on Thursday.

Now it seems a serious problem, one that will affect Apple’s reputation badly. Previous cases were reported from Taiwan, Japan, China, Canada, and Greece. The first incident was spotted in Taiwan when suddenly a lady informed that her iPhone 8 Plus split open while it was charging.

Apple has a huge reputation for its hardware which is arguably infallible in its consumers’ view. If all pieces are affected by this disaster, returning or replacing the pieces will be only a slight damage compared to what Apple will go through as a loss of its market reputation.

iPhone 8 and 8 Plus went on sale on September 22. Apple has not yet released any data of early sales of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, so we indeed do not have an exact report of how many phones are already out there in the market, how many are in stores and how many Apply keeps in his manufacturing units.

This is while pre-orders for Apple’s highest and most ambitious phone iPhone X will begin on October 27. This phone will be shipping by November 3 and is built on the same technology in terms of hardware. It has not encountered any complaint till the date but the issues in its sibling may affect its sale too.

OnePlus 5T Has Leaked, And It Looks Good

After last year’s launch of OnePlus 3, the company surprised almost everyone with the launch of OnePlus 3T after a few months, the phone had some faster specs and a beefier battery, and it looks like the company is giving the OnePlus line a similar treatment this year too. This leak of OnePlus 5T model is just spotted. And it is a design akin to Samsung Galaxy S8.

Slashleaks reported a photo of this extremely narrow-bezel curved corner smartphone. Its power button is placed right, and volume rockers on left. There is no home button and speaker module has thin bezels. It makes quite an edge-to-edge display. Also, OnePlus 5T may come with an aspect ratio of 18:9, while OnePlus 5 is a regular 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display with the home button on the front panel.

A 16-megapixel + 20-megapixel camera is at its back and a powerful 16-megapixel camera is there up front. This smartphone is powered by a considerable 3,300mAh battery that supports Dash Charge as well as fast-charging.

Its key features remain the same. Similarly, for the OnePlus 3, the company may release the new OnePlus 5T as soon as November. That’s will be five months since the launch of the OnePlus 5.

To sum its specification, this device OnePlus 5, is a regular flagship smartphone that is priced at Rs 32,999. It has a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED screen with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The processor is mighty as Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core 2.45GHz SoC which is paired with a 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

It runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat based on Oxygen OS 4.5.0, we may expect an Oreo upgrade as soon as it arrives. It will be interesting to see how OnePlus 5T compares with other much expensive phones including the Apple iPhone X and the Galaxy Note 8 which was launch just a few months ago.

Nokia 9 Has Leaked Again, This Time With Renders And An Iris Scanner

We have seen plenty about the Nokia 9 in recent weeks and it looks like the phone just can’t stop leaking. The renders are showing it with the curved display and a dual rear camera with a 13-megapixel Zeiss sensors including dual-LED flash support were out on the internet this afternoon. leaks show that the phone will have a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) display smartphone powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC.

The phone will sell at around EUR 750 (roughly Rs. 55,100). It will be Nokia’s elitist smartphone that will compete with top-end phones by Samsung and Apple.

It’s beautifully designed with a glass finish at the back similar to iPhone 8 series. It also comes to that Nokia 9 is the next premium smartphone getting rid of 3.5mm audio jack. Google’s latest Pixel phones are already missing it after iPhone 7 began the trend.

The fingerprint scanner is on the back panel. There are antenna bands on the side panels instead of back. The right panel has both power and volume controls. Those renders are posted by OnLeaks, which has a decent record of leaks. We are right to expect that product will be almost the same when launches. Previous leaks have suggested 6GB and 8GB RAM storage options, so it goes the same with this one. Also, Nokia 9 will have IP68 certification and 128GB inbuilt storage variant too.

The surprise may be that Nokia 9 may be first Nokia with an iris scanner and considering it will be specced out with the best components possible, it is not a surprise that Nokia is aiming at the newly launched iPhone X from Apple and Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S8 Plus.
